7 microbreweries to discover without moderation!

7 microbreweries to discover without moderation!

Jérome PELEYRAS | 8/5/22, 1:30 PM

It's no secret that the French love beer. After almost disappearing in the 80s, the number of breweries, and microbreweries in particular, has grown exponentially. Today, there are no fewer than 2,000 micro-brasseries in France. According to Brasseur de France, France even ranks 1st in Europe in terms of the number of breweries. However, French consumption lags behind that of our European friends. At 30 L per person per year, France is only 26th in the European Union in terms of consumption (the Czechs take the cake with 148.6 L per person per year). After criss-crossing the roads of France, we have selected our seven favorite microbreweries.

  • Creative address: Brasserie La Barbaude

Here are brewers who demonstrate great inventiveness. They regularly develop new recipes inspired by the terroir. Among their many offerings are "Nîm'ale", a blond with a fruity aroma, "Matador", a brown brewed with 5 different malts and peaty aromas.aromas of peat, coffee, chocolate and caramel, or "Frambrunette" made with an infusion of raspberries, perfect with desserts. New this spring is "Némos", a refreshing pale lager from Nîmes.

  • Organic address: Brasserie du Baril

Founded in July 2015 by Benoît Corre, this 100% Brest-based microbrewery produces organic craft beers. It currently offers 3 cuvées for sale: "Baril Originale", an American-inspired blonde, "Baril White", a German-inspired white, and "Captain Baril", a very hoppy India Pale Ale with notes of exotic fruits and citrus. An address to keep an eye on.

Address: ZAC de Beg Avel, 4 rue Champlain, 29200 Brest

  • The all-rounder: Brasserie Améno

Originally from the wine world, Thibaud and Arnaud now produce their own hops and brew a variety of fresh beers to suit today's tastes: one white, two amber, one brown, one IPA and one lager. To be purchased on site, as well as at numerous outlets in the surrounding area.

Address: ZA Jonquier et Morelles, 84850 Camaret sur Aigues

Volcanic address: Brasserie Brivardoise

Anne-Sophie and Etienne Florentin, pure Auvergnats with a passion for gastronomy, founded their craft brewery in 2014. They began developing a few recipes and brewing in their garage, but, to take things a step further, Etienne trained as a brewer in the North. The result is "Volcane", available in 5 colors: a white, refreshing and fruity, with notes of apple and pear; a blond, slightly spicy, with resinous aromas; an amber, delicate and well-balanced, with floral aromas.quilibrated, with floral aromas, the "Crête de coq", a red with roasted aromas and the "bête rousse", very aromatic with cookie notes. Don't forget to make an appointment.

  • Wine address: Brasserie Maddam

Here's proof that Chablis isn't all about wine, with this craft brewery. This family venture, launched by two cousins, has now given birth to a pretty brewery on the outskirts of town, which includes both a workshop and a bar, so you can taste the cuvées on the premises or take them away. The classic range currently comprises 7 beers, plus limited editions aged in oak barrels or with grape must.

  • The Basque address: Brasserie Akerbeltz

In the hinterland of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, at the foot of the mythical Rhune, François Iraola has been running his brasserie since 1999, with a consistent reputation for quality. At this traditional Basque-style brewery, you'll discover a range of beers whose ingredients and production are of the highest quality, with an emphasis on authenticity. On the menu are the classics (white, blonde, amber, brown), the specials and the seasonals. Customers can also stop in to sample beers at the bar, buy products in the boutique or visit the brewery (by appointment).

  • The eco-responsible address: Brasserie Hydrophobie

Convinced that the future of our beautiful planet is under threat, Julien has resolutely chosen to produce, no doubt more expensive, but better and more responsibly. Filtered and purified water, pesticide-free malts and hops, and... flowers. By appointment, you can take a free one-hour tasting tour, or even create your own beer during a one-day brewing session. For €400, you also get 10 cases of your creation! In September 2018, the brewery moved to the Chartrons Bassins à Flot district, and took advantage of the opportunity to set up a bar open to the public where you can nibble a few boards over a cocktail or house beer.

The king of the Loire grape varieties, also widespread in South Africa, "ch'nin", as the people of the Loire pronounce it, has the extraordinary ability to produce dry white wines as well as semi-dry, sweet, syrupy and even sparkling wines, commonly known as fines bulles. Complex and demanding, it is nonetheless endearing.
