The Ritz auctions off a selection of the palace's legendary pieces

Mathieu Dubus | 9/6/24, 7:04 AM

On September 25, 26 and 27, 2024 at Artcurial, a selection of around 1,500 lots will be offered for sale. A complete ensemble reflecting the history of the Parisian showcase.

It is one of the capital's best-known luxury hotels... Right in the heart of Place Vendôme, the Ritz Paris has been championing hotel and gastronomic excellence for 125 years. Back in the day, Auguste Escoffier, "king of chefs", had a close relationship with César Ritz, the man behind the famous palace. Famous names such as Ernest Hemingway and Marcel Proust also frequented the establishment. In the kitchen, chef Michel Roth also held the reins for many years. This scattered but powerful heritage will be reflected in an auction to be held on September 25, 26 and 27, 2024.

A collection under the symbol "Universes of the Ritz Paris".

Are you a lover of fine tableware or interior design? This auction is sure to please. It will be held at Artcurial, an international auction house. You'll be able to find historic copper cookware, estimated at between 150 and 200 euros, magnum buckets and other serving trays starting at 300 euros, and a large Hemingway bar upholstered banquette worth between 1500 and 2000 euros.

On the dinnerware side, six sets, whose prices are not indicated, will be on sale:

  • "Camaïeu vert" and "Camaïeu pourpre", introduced in 1956 to mark the opening of the Espadon restaurant (3 toques).
  • "Platine" and "Impérial", the most recent, arrived on Place Vendôme for the reopening of the Ritz Paris in 2016.
  • "Marthe", the first service ordered by César Ritz himself for the creation of the palace that bears his name in 1898. It has been in continuous use in the hotel for 125 years.
  • "Ritz Club", meanwhile, was created by Jean Boggio for the Ritz Club, a festive venue open for just over 20 years between 1990 and 2012.

In addition to the three-day auction, on September 21, 23 and 24, 2024, from 11am to 6pm, a public exhibition of the items will be open to the public. An opportunity to learn more about the history of the place and the objects that forged the history of the Ritz Paris.
Where? Artcurial, 7 rond-point des Champs-Élysées Marcel Dassault, 75008 Paris
