Rouen à Table! Normandy's belly-pleasing event

Rouen à Table! Normandy's belly-pleasing event

Mathieu Dubus | 9/26/24, 8:03 AM

This autumn, on October 12 and 13 2024 to be precise, the city of Rouen and its partners are getting ready to celebrate gastronomy.

In the city of a hundred steeples, cuisine and its terroir are historical treasures. In fact, Rouen is the first French city in the UNESCO Creative Cities network in the field of gastronomy. That's why the city of Rouen, Métropole Rouen Normandie, Rouen Tourisme and the city's association of shopkeepers and artisans, called "Les Vitrines de Rouen" have agreed to introduce a new event within the 25ᵉ edition of the Fête du Ventre: "Rouen à Table!".

Planning a complete culinary exhibition

On the program are eight activities in which visitors can take part (provided they get organized). For early risers, a "grand petit déjeuner" will be served on Place de la Cathédrale at 8:30 a.m., showcasing the skills of a host of Meilleurs Ouvriers de France craftsmen. This will be followed by the gastronomic rally, held in seven stages across the city from 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a registration fee of 39 euros per person. The aim of the rally is to give visitors the chance to sample local specialities from various Rouen food shops. Fancy an exclusive weekend lunch? Treat yourself to "Du tableau à l'assiette", orchestrated by chef Olivier Da Silva and chef Suzanne Waymel from the Michelin-starred Odas restaurant, on Saturday, October 12.

Also on Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Place de la Cathédrale will be enlivened by a chefs' battle. This is one of the free activities open to all, with some great duels in store, featuring chefs like Gabin Bouguet. Other chefs, such as Lotta Olsson from Bergen in Norway and Naiara Faria from Belo Horizonte in Brazil, came from far and wide, thanks to Rouen's major role in the UNESCO Creative Cities network.

To round off the day, a cooking class will be held on the Place de la Cathédrale between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at a cost of 37 euros. Organized by the Fauchon school, this activity reflects the desire of "Rouen à Table!" to emphasize the transmission, awareness and education of eating well for all. As a gourmet apotheosis, the grand goûter will be held on Sunday October 13, 2024 at Place des Emmurées between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., and will follow a gourmet brunch at Place de la Cathédrale. The whole event will be an opportunity for local artisans to showcase their work and creations to as many people as possible.

In addition to these eight activities, the main one, the Fête du Ventre, will take place all day Saturday and Sunday, free of charge. For more information on the entire culinary and gastronomic event, visit visiterouen.com.
